View from the bus perfect for photography

The elevated perspective of the double-decker bus offers unique angles of Florence that pedestrians miss. You are above the cars and often level with the first-floor balconies.

Best Seats for Photographers

  • Front Row (Upper Deck): Unobstructed forward views. Great for wide shots of narrow streets approaching the Duomo. However, the glass can sometimes have reflections.
  • Right Side: Generally offers better views of the river and the city when climbing up the loops to Piazzale Michelangelo.
  • Back Row: The absolute best spot. You can shoot backwards for "trails" or stand up (carefully!) to shoot over the side without glass obstruction.

Camera Settings for Moving Vehicles

  • Shutter Speed: Speed is key. Keep it at least 1/500s or faster to freeze the motion of the bus and the vibrations.
  • Aperture: f/8 is usually fine for daylight landscapes to keep everything in focus.
  • Stabilization: Turn it ON. The cobblestones are bumpy!
  • Lens: A zoom lens (like a 24-70mm) is versatile. You'll switch from wide street scenes to zooming in on architectural details quickly.

Top 3 "Pro" Shots to Get

  1. The Ponte Vecchio Profile: As the bus drives along the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, you get a perfect side profile of the bridge with the Uffizi corridor above it.
  2. The Duomo Scale: The bus often passes quite close to the Cathedral. Use a wide-angle lens to capture the sheer scale of the facade against the blue sky.
  3. The Cypress Road: The curves of Viale dei Colli offer beautiful "leading lines" with cypress trees, perfect for that classic Tuscan look.

Golden Hour

Try to ride the last loop of the day (usually 5-6 PM depending on season). The light hits the yellow stucco buildings and creates that warm, honey-colored glow Florence is famous for.
